After PhoneDay in 1996, the telecommunications regulator OFTEL made the bullish statement "you won't see another code change in your life time" - well, they lied! Obviously, they hadn't counted on the mammoth expansion of the Internet and mobile communications, and even the increased demand for traditional fixed lines which has left the United Kingdom with a shortage of phone numbers!

The Number Change is the biggest change to ever take place to the UK's phone number system. In theory, it'll make the system more simple, with similar numbers grouped together. In the short term though, it's likely to cause confusion and trouble, but with this site, there's no need for you to be caught out!
